On May 1, 1897, this school was brought to a cabin with a roof of coconut branches in the land adjacent to the land where the Telecom Institute is currently running in the center of Padukka city. It became popular as a mixed school. After that, in 1908, the school was brought to the present site with one building. From then on, this school gradually developed its physical resources and was taken over by the government as Padukka Junior College in 1911. In the early days, this school was maintained by an organization called Vidyodaya Samitya and was called Vidyodaya School. After the educational reforms of Mr. RA Eriyagolla, it was named Siripiyarathana Vidyalaya as a tribute to Piyarathana Thero.
In 1970, higher level arts and commerce departments and in 1976, the science department were started in this college. On July 1, 1991, the then Minister of Education, Mr. Lalith Athulathmudali, made this school a central college. Mr. Rajapaksa's intervention is also notable. At that time, Mr. M. M. D.
